Sienkoland Update

All,
I have been slacking on updating the blog. A lot has been going on here in Sienkoland. It is hopefully the END of what has been an eventful month or so. Here is the chronicle of our misfortunes.
First, I love my iPod then my watch. A ticket from the cops while going to get a new watch. Next, I drop my laptop and break the screen so I am forced to use it as a Desktop computer attached to our Desktop Computer's Monitor. That was followed by Andrea getting into a car crash which luckily Andrea and Kacey were relatively unharmed. Next came a bout of shingles brought on by the stress of everything for Andrea which was immediately followed by a severe sinus infection that knocked me off my feet and now…..Kacey has Chicken Pox. The poor little girl is fighting through it, but is not comfortable at all. We are due for some good luck here so cross your fingers.

Andrea is busy with work and her club volleyball season is in full swing and my high school team is undefeated and should keep that up during this week’s games.

Kacey is having, or at least is supposed to have, her 1st Birthday party on March 28th at Lake Poway. Andrea and I are hoping that she is doing well enough to be around people then. Especially since all of my parents are coming in from Illinois and Andrea’s parents are coming down from Irvine and in from Tucson, AZ. Also, Papa is flying down from Washington to see his great granddaughter. We are really excited everyone is coming. We have not had much grandparent interaction so the breaks for Andrea and I are going to be much appreciated.

We wish that Kacey could talk to us to let us know how she is feeling. That is really the hardest part of this whole ordeal. Today was the hardest on me since she came home from the hospital. She was in pain and I couldn’t do much to help her. Lots of slapstick comedy to try to make her laugh. A headache is a small price to pay for a couple of cheap laughs between crying.

Last week we had a garage sale and got rid of a whole bunch of crap…I mean treasures. We made a fair amount of money so it was worth it. Grammy Ellen came into town and was a huge help especially since I was still hurting from my sinus infection.

We hope everyone is doing well and hope spring finds most of you soon.

Sorry most of this post sounds like sour grapes, I promise it isn’t. We are so lucky to have a roof over our head, and great family and friends!!!!

Hello All,

I hope things are going well with everyone. While most everyone gets geared up for the Superbowl, I am gearing up for some more baseball. I went up to USC with my friends Dan Giese and Mike Gosling yesterday for a workout of about 15 professional pitchers. I had a great time with the guys and got in there and caught a few. We had a quick turn around because I had a game out in Valley Center where it was about 40 degrees up in the mountains last night. Today I have a game with the high school kids down by the border, and tomorrow a game with my little pee wees in Del Mar followed by some lessons. I don't care about the Super Bowl since the Bears and/or Chargers aren't playing so baseball will suit me fine. We are in a Santa Ana pattern with the weather, so it is going to be a couple of hot days with highs in the mid to upper 70's. We have had a really warm winter. Sorry to all of you who are freezing your butts off in the Midwest. Below are some pictures of Kacey from the other day when I went outside and worked on the yard.

All,

I have been slacking getting pictures to everyone lately. Sorry! I have been worrying about the weather in the Chicagoland area. Especially compared to our weather there are some differences.

Kacey is such a cutie. She is growing and developing so well. We are so happy and she is such a happy baby.

She is wearing the shirt that my buddy Ryan Welch got her at the National Rodeo in Las Vegas last month.

The saucer is still the old standby to keep Kacey occupied and happy.

Christmas, New Years, Hawkeyes, and more!

Happy Holidays to All,
We hope you all made it through safely and had a great holiday season. I know I promised some video of Kacey at Christmas, but I forgot that I had to go to Las Vegas straight from Irvine at the Arroyo's. The camp went great, although cold, and I only lost a few bucks on the video poker. Year one of Ryan's great adventure of being out on his own went really well. I made more money than I ever had and my client list is growing. I hope to continue that throughout the next year. Andrea is doing great and is about to start Volleyball for Club Pacific. She is coaching a group of 16 year old and under (freshman and sophmores) so she is gearing up for that and realizing that Kacey is going to be a punk teenager one day.

We also had a great "Breakthrough" today! Kacey has her first tooth broken through her gum and another is close to totally breaking the skin. We know we are in trouble and as Mom put it, "I hope she isn't a biter like her father" I obviously have no idea what she is talking about.

For New Years Eve we went to one of the ladies that Andrea met at Kacey's play group home. We were one of 3 families with babies there and one pregnant lady. We had a appetizers, dinner, and a few drinks before coming home and putting the Monster to bed. We made it until about 12:10 with Uncle Regan sitting on the couch. We know we are getting old and I had to prepare myself for the Hawkeyes playing the

Rooting on the Hawkeyes on January 1st. We brought the New Year in with a 31-10 Victory over South Carolina in the Outback Bowl. Andrea and I celebrated by eathing Outback Steak House for dinner!

My latest project was to redo my office and build a bigger and nicer desk so I could actually work at the desk instead of just piling stuff on top of it. My father in law Mike suggested getting a kitchen counter to the top of the desk. It makes it look really nice. Now what probably should have taken 4-5 hours to complete did take me a full 24 hours, but I don't care. I have a good desk that has a ton of storage and plenty of workspace. Now I don't have an excuse to get anything done!

This weekend I am off to the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) Convention that is being held here in San Diego this year and Andrea has volleyball on Sunday.

Merry Christmas Everyone,

We were visited by Good Ole St. Nick last night (Actually it was Grandpa Mike). Averie and Kacey came down to see but unfortunately, Averie was already in a deep sleep and doesn't remember and Kacey, I am afraid doesn't remember either.

Kacey slept in her pack-n-play in our room last night to accommodate every one's sleeping arrangements and Kacey didn't like the different place. She was up all night and really kind of a pill. Luckily, she woke up in a great mood and has been great all day.

She was given some great gifts that will help me contain and keep her occupied. Thanks for all the learning toys and crinkly toys.

The Sienko Family is gearing up for the holidays and we are actually hosting Christmas this year. Ellen and Mike came in from Tucson a couple of days ago and we should have a full house on Christmas.

Rolling Over

We had a good week since the last post!

Kacey is surviving the myriad of Christmas parites, and social events of this month so far!

We did see a change in Kacey this week! She rolled over in front of our eyes twice. This is one of the developmental things that she is behind in. Really for her adjusted age, she is about on schedule, but for her real age she is a little behind. She wants to roll over and see what is above and behind her all the time.

Week in Review

This edition of Week in Review chronicles the Sienko's first plane ride and first night away from home for Kacey. Last week was most definitely the most exciting in awhile for us.

Kacey's Message to all the other kids!

Our Friday began at 5 am getting Kacey out of bed to get her dressed and in her car seat for a trip to the airport. We had very little trouble getting the stroller and car seat checked and soon we were off to the airplane crossing our fingers that there wouldn't be any problems with the flight and prolong our stress of having her in the airplane. Luckily, everything went to plan and she had a really good time flying and checking the new environment out.

After we arrived in Tucson, we breathed a huge sigh of relief that Kacey handled it nicely. We rushed straight to the Dentist office that Grammie Ellen works at to have my teeth cleaned and some cavities filled. Kacey was playing the whole time and enjoying all of the new people.

Later that evening, the renewal of Ellen and Mike's vows took place at a church close to their home. The views of the mountains were spectacular and the setting was just right to have a 7 month old with very little sleep right at her bedtime. There were just family and 4 other friends present at the wedding.

After the Ceremony, everyone went back to the Scopelleti's for a great homemade Spaghetti dinner made by Mike. Lots of food, Cake, and Champagne!

Rachelle and Averie who just got her first job as a model. She had a photo shoot on Monday for an ad campaign.

Above is a picture of Andrea and Kacey probably in the 9 pm range. Kacey had trouble adjusting to the new settings, a new bed, a different routine, and some noise and was up screaming for hours. She was so overtired and basically went without any real nap all day. The screaming continued well into the night. I finally put her in her bed for the last time at 2 am (3 am AZ Time) and she was up the next morning at 5 am (6 am AZ Time). Needless to say, Mom and Dad were very tired and weary of what else might come of the trip.

Kacey with Grammie Ellen on Day 2. She woke up a little cranky, but she did just fine for the rest of the trip. I had to fly home to work on Sunday so Andrea was alone with Kacey until Monday night when they came home.

Grammie Ellen did purchase a really neat Duck bathtub for Kacey. I heard that she enjoyed it to the fullest. From the pictures it sure looks like it!

Everyone made it back safely from the trip. It was the first time that I had spent some time away from the girls and it was definitely different. I like it just the way that it is when we are all home together!

Week in Review

Kacey is taking an extra long nap this morning so I thought I would hurry up and write a quick blog. Things are going very well around here.

This past week was busy for me working wise. I am certainly not complaining. I was wondering when it would pick up. We went to party on Saturday night for my friend Dan Giese who is home from his season with the New York Yankees. The people who threw him the party are landscape architects that designed The Park at Lakeshore East in Chicago and live in an amazing house in Rancho Santa Fe. Was my first catered upscale BBQ. Kacey did her best to stay awake past 7 and it was great to see a whole bunch of our friends. We haven't done enough of that lately. Andrea started Club Volleyball tryouts and my Colts team won the Championship of the Veterans' Day Classic. The boys are all freshman who haven't played high school baseball yet and beat Sophomores and Juniors. I am pretty proud of them. We also got quite a bit of rain yesterday. It is great for my garden and all the over seeding on my lawn.

Kacey is starting to improve on some of her skills. This past week she started be able to hold onto her bottle when she eats. It is only something that she does for a minute or so, but she grabs onto it and can hold it.

She also likes to sit in her Bumbo and grasp onto some toys. She doesn't always reach out for them, but sometimes she does and bangs them around.

My personal favorite is feeding her a mixture of Rice Cereal and Baby Food. Today it was Peaches. She couldn't figure out where I went when I ran out of the room to get the camera this morning, but soon figured out that she should smile.

This week Kacey has a busy schedule. She goes to the doctor later this afternoon for another round of shots and later in the week we are going over to fly over to Tucson to visit Ellen and Mike for their vow renewal. So not only a sleep over at another house, but a trip on an airplane and a new state for Kacey. I am going to fly back on Saturday night because I have to work on Sunday, but the girls are going to stay in AZ until Monday night. So I am on my own for two days. I am sure my bachelor nights are going to consist of football, a few beers, and sleep. So stay tuned for the great photos from our trip. I have already been informed by my wife that I am the designated picture guy for the weekend.

Halloween Update

Happy Halloween!
We are are doing well and I have a lot to update, so here I go!!

Grammie Jo Jo was here for a week and was an enormous help to me allowing me to get some work done while she was watching Kacey.

We didn't make too many trips out, but we did get to go to a wedding in Riverside at the Mission Inn. What a beautiful venue for a wedding. The most incredible chapel and courtyard.

Mom and I worked on the lawn planting some flowers and cleaned up the back where I have neglected it since the baby has been here.

The plant on the Left was given to us when Kacey was born by Dad and PC. Somehow it is the only thing that has survived. It grew so much that I replanted it in a pot. Cross your fingers that I don't kill it.

Kacey is doing great. We had a nurse over at the house yesterday and she weighed in at 16 and a half pounds. She was 16lbs 11 oz, but she had clothes and a diaper on. She was also 26 inches tall. She is plugging away and growing.

Gearing up for Grammy JoJo

I hope this entry finds everyone doing well.

We are getting ready for a week long visit from Grammy JoJo. Kacey has been cleaning her room and making sure that she can spell in cursive so she can impress Gammy. It is close to 3 pm and I was finally able to get Kacey to go down for a nap. We have gotten her to do pretty much everything except take predictable naps during the day. If I could figure that one out I would be really happy.

Andrea took Kacey to the Pumpkin Patch to meet up with her friend Nora and her kids who she hasn't seen in a couple of years

I would say that Kacey wasn't too into it judging by these pictures, but there is always next year!

She did have her first encounter with a goat though. Once again she will probably enjoy it more next year. I doubt we will be hanging out with many more goats in the next few months.

Later on Saturday, Andrea had to go and check on one of the camp outs for her work. We took a trip up to the Marine base at Camp Pendelton and went to the great beach that they have the camp out at. We took Kacey but got her all ready for bed and wrapped her up so she wouldn't get cold at the beach.

Kacey is now officially over 6 months old. It has really gone fast for us and she is growing like a weed. It seems like everyday when you get her out of bed that she has gotten a little bit bigger.

Things are going well in the Sienko household. Fall is coming with the best weather of the year. Nice breezes and lots of sunshine. Unfortunately, this is also fire season. There are some really big ones up at Camp Pendelton, but we are in the clear so far. I saw a brush fire today on my way home in a canyon, but hopefully the fire department got it under control quickly. The winds really kicked up during the day and the risk goes through the roof when it is really dry and windy.

Andrea is battling a cold and my computer causes me to want to throw it out of the window sometimes, but our little girl is doing great.

We went to the doctor last week and she weighed in at 14 lbs 15 oz. and was 25 1/2 inches long. That put her close to average for her age (6 months). It we adjusted her to age what it should be (4 months) she would be at the very top of the curve so she is healthy and only has two minutes of problems every time we go to the doctor with the million rounds of vaccinations that they give her. We are spreading them out to every month so she doesn' t have to be a pin cushion every time that we go there.

Kacey is really into trying to sit up and really gets frustrated if you don't help her. It is really cute now that she is trying to sit up in her car seat and look out of the sides now.

Hello Everyone,

Things are going very well here in San Diego. The weather is hot, but Kacey is doing well and we are working on getting her to stay busy throughout the day so that she takes a good nap during the day.

Here is one of my favorite pictures of Kacey and her Mommy. Andrea was rocking Kacey to sleep and I made her close her eyes. Andrea rocks her to sleep every night for at least a half an hour.
Here is Kacey sitting in her new "Bumbo" Seat. She is still trying to figure this thing out, but she seems to like it. Posture isn't something that she prides herself in though.
Here are a tale of two pictures. The top picture has Kacey in a somewhat good position and the bottom picture makes her look like she is Jabba the Hut's daughter.

This week Kacey really found her toes. She usually has one hand in her mouth and the other holding her foot. I would imagine that she is going to start teething soon. The amount of drool that comes out of her mouth is prodigious.

We went up to the Arroyo's last weekend to celebrate Uncle Brent and Daddy's birthday. We took a picture of Kacey holding the basketball for Uncle Garrett's basketball program. I am pretty confident that this will be one of the last times that she will have a basketball in her hands.

As you can see, Kacey can really hold her head up well. She can almost stay sitting up by herself once you get her situatedKacey is still figuring out the activity thing still. She can almost touch the bottom of the thing with her feet so I figure when she can touch she will swivel and twist in it. On accident she will touch the buttons and get the sounds and lights to turn on which she likes.

This is Kacey on the 18th napping. I actually don't know how I captured the 3 seconds on perfect sleep, but I did. She was up in minutes talking, yelling, screaming, crying, and then laughing and talking again.Here is some of what I captured with the talking. Don't mind the weird sounds that I make and the earthquake movements that the camera makes. I am trying to multitask and get her to talk at the same time. :)

Grandma Ellen came to visit last weekend. She helped us out a ton and watched Kacey for us a few times so Andrea and I could get away. Andrea and Ellen got to hang out a little and at least got to spend a little time alone while getting a pedicure.

Dad played golf on his birthday.I got a sitter for Kacey and went golfing with Coach Eric. We had a great time other than having to play with a motormouth.We also had some good tickets for the Counting Crows/Maroon 5 concert on Saturday night, but Counting Crows cancelled their portion of the concert so we ended up not going. We grabbed some Barbecue and went bowling with Coach and Stefanie instead. Andrea and I swear we are going to start a bowling league because we had a blast. *(It will never happen)*

Sit and Step Activity Center

Hello Everyone!

Today Kacey was the sweetest girl around. I played with her all morning and then I decided to put together her "Baby Sit & Step 2-in-1 Activity Center. It has about 10,000 parts so luckily KC was willing to take a nap during that time. The seat that she sits in swivels all the way around so once her little legs hit the bottom she can twist and turn. The cool thing about this apparatus is that when she learns how to walk, it converts into a walker. That should be in a week or so if my calculations are correct. :)

At first she was not sure what to think about all of the stuff on it, but after a few minutes she warmed up to it.
I thought that it would be a good idea to take some pictures of Mom and Dad with the Baby since we never do. So here they are.

Kacey has been so great during the night. We have been more than lucky when it comes to the sleep department. Her night begins with a bath from Mom at 8:15 pm then a feeding and rocking to sleep. She sleeps from about 9:00 pm until sometime between 7:00 am and 8:30 am. Awesome!

Today Kacey and I were lucky to have Mom home for the day. Andrea was given the day off by her boss because they ran a very large event all weekend. So I was able to do some work and Andrea took care of the baby.

Kacey was sporting her new Juicy Coture outfit and is a cute as ever.

Andrea and I also were lucky enough to get a couple Dugout seats for the Padres Game vs. the Dodgers. It is always nice to to get away for a few hours! Greg Maddux Pitching against the Padres

Manny Ramirez coming to bat. He Shattered a bat that came flying right at us! A little piece of the bat came throught he net and landed the lap of the people next to us.

Kacey is also able to keep her head up high whenever we assist her with sitting up. She has been a bobblehead for the longest time, but now she can stay still and look at things.

Hollywood Girl, Rice Cereal, and More

Hi everyone,

Sorry that I have not been on top of updating the blog. Things are going well for us. Andrea has gone back to work part time at the YMCA, but has switched jobs. She is now a coordinator for Adventure Guides which really is a great change for her. She had run the childcare for the Ecke YMCA for the last couple of years and was ready for a change. She is really happy in her new job which makes leaving for half the day a lot easier.

Kacey now looks like a movie star. We found a pair of sunglasses for her and she soaks it up.

Next is the Rice Cereal. We gave Kacey her first go round of Rice Cereal the other day. She loved it. Other than sucking the spoon which made an incredible mess all over her and the bed, she did awesome. I am going to try it on my own here in a few minutes. If it gets all over the both of us I wouldn't be surprised. Here are a few photos to mark the occasion

We received a whole bunch of really cute outfits when Kacey was born and we are trying to get her into them. Because she was so tiny, she can still fit into some newborn stuff so we never know what size to try on. We go to the doctor tomorrow so we should have some updated size and weights for everyone. At her 4 month check up she was 23 1/2 inches and 11 lbs 4 oz. She is definitely bigger than that now. She actually reached the growth charts this last visit so we are good to go. We took Kacey out on the town with her Aunt Carolina yesterday. We attempted to put shoes on her for the first time. There was lots of lace and a sheer lack of cooperation from her. She liked to curl up her toes so it made it hard to put them on. For some reason they found their way off of her quickly.

Carolina is here from IL for 5 days and we are trying to keep her busy by laying out, shopping, and today, getting a pedicure. More to come soon.

Good Evening everyone.

We are just sitting at home relaxing tonight. I grilled about 1000 lbs of chicken on the grill tonight, we watched the classic Dolly Parton/Burt Reynolds film, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", and Andrea made chocolate chip cookies with walnuts in them. I wanted to share some videos and picture of Kacey over the last couple of days.
We are all doing well and hope everyone else is doing the same.

Hello All,
Here is my latest attempt at keeping everyone in touch to us even though most of you are 1000's of miles away.

Today, Andrea and I took Kacey to the doctor this morning and she is doing great. She weighed in at 11 lbs. 4 oz. & 23 1/2 inches long. She was given a couple rounds of vaccinations this morning which absolutely did not make her happy. A couple of tears were shed, but it seems to be harder on me and Andrea then it is on her.

We are going to through a couple of changes here. I am not sure that everyone’s summer is going as quickly as ours, but Andrea has gone back to work part time and I am turning into Mr. Mom. My job is to help get Kacey on a schedule. Not exactly sure what that schedule is going to be, but I will do my best. So far it looks like
5:00 am Wake Up and Feed the Monster. Then I try to put her down for a nap. This is where I am supposed to make Andrea eggs, bacon, toast, and freshly squeezed orange juice. I have not mastered that part of our schedule yet, but there is still hope for me.
Hopefully her nap lasts a couple of hours so I can get some work done before we start doing some fun activities such as “Tummy Time” and watching a fun DVD that is supposed to help her learn words and eventually read. It better work, I paid a couple hundred dollars for the whole program! Either way, it really keeps her attention for about a half hour or so and gives me a little break. We hang out for a little bit and then I get ready for my lessons and workouts that I am doing in the afternoons.

I have taken over a couple of different travel baseball teams that will keep me pretty busy on the weekends, but it should give me some more flexibility during the week.
Eventually, we are hoping and working toward Andrea being able to stay at home and be with Kacey. That would be ideal, but for a little while we are going to keep our little juggling schedules working.

Like I said, we will try out best to update the blog as often as we can. Let me know how you guys like it. I am going to work on putting the You Tube videos onto the blog so it is a one stop shop for seeing how we are doing.

Something about our little Kacey......

Kacey was born Sunday April 6, 2008 at 10:05 am at Scripps La Jolla Hospital.

Andrea was afflicted by something called HELP syndrome which is a very severe type of Preeclampcia that basically put her life and the babies life in danger. Andrea was admitted to the hospital as a precaution on Thursday April 3rd after a routine ultrasound showed some weird things, but we were sent home at 4 pm on April 5 with a clean bill of health and a giant sigh of relief. Andrea's instructions were to go on strict bed rest of the remainder of her pregnancy.

After a quick stop at In and Out for a Double Double, Andrea came home and started her relaxation time. Little did she know that within an hour or two she would start to feel like crap. She went to bed hoping it was nothing, but a stomach ache but awoke at 1 am in severe pain. After a 100mph Nascar type car ride to Labor and Delivery, she was admitted back into the hospital. Andrea was monitored and stuck with morphine and anti nausea drugs all night to help with the pain. By 7 am we were told that there is a slight possibility that we would have the baby that day and at 8:30 after another ultrasound we were told that we would be having the baby soon. A Shock for both of us.

Here is a shocker, I had lessons planned for 9 am that I never cancelled because I thought it was a false alarm AGAIN. So my first phone calls were to my clients who I had to cancel that morning. That baby had cost me $600 before she was even born. Typical Woman!!!!

Luckily, Andrea's mom Ellen was there with us and she helped make all the appropriate phone calls while I was freaking out a bit and getting the camera and video Camera ready. This is what we were all waiting for!

28 days in the NICU and she was able to come home. She had no problems, just needed some time to grow and develop her lungs!!!
